#20: My classmates' Whiplash scene

Critic's corner ๐Ÿ˜Š: What did they do well?

Ignoring that they're playing with their phones:)),
I love how, with its colour and shadow, the picture has kind
of set a sad, dramatic tone for the scene.
It proved they choose a good filming spot!

They also did well in framing this particular picture.
I mean just by looking at it, audience already has
a slight sense of the emotions they try to convey.

Although none of the images is a screenshot of any scene that was included in the final project presented to us, I think they serve as evidence of how their group has tried adding their own originality to the remake project.
One aspect that particularly stood out to me was the group's use of a variety of camera angles. This not only made the scene seem more like "a delicious feast" visually but also added depth to the characters and their emotions. The camera work aided in enhancing the actor's performance and heightened the emotional impact on audiences. A particular scene that I think is worth mentioning is this ending with one character somehow rolling his eyes awkwardly - it puts on a slight element of comedy and shows me as an audience another side of the character.
The editing was also quite smooth, with great use of J-cut and L-cut. These editing techniques helped to achieve a seamless transition between scenes and added a professional touch to the final product.

Yet, of course, I think there are other improvements they could have done.
    L
oud echoes are heard every time a character speaks, supposed to be a result of the filming location, which seems like a cavernous place. This can be a little distracting, and for me, kind of ruin the previously well-established mood. The consistency of the room tones is something they should focus on to avoid abrupt shifts in sound.
