#4: Mainstream audiences
The most financially successful box office genres and the explanation for its popularity.
Most financially successful box office genres are action, comedy, horror and romance. In my opinion, which leans more toward certain sentience, the reason that explains the popularity of these genres is the way they are able to exploit audiences' feelings - sadness, joy, fear, etc... This resulted in a very strong emotional response from the audience. For the audience, the action always creates a sense of excitement, and rush. The comedy genre brings joy and laughter. Extreme fear and tension are something that always presents in horror movies.
Yet looking at the industry aspect, of what I can interpret from 2019 - the time that marks the 'rise of superheroes', indeed, there are some types of genres like superhero, fantasy or action that always seem to be tied with one of any media giants. The budget in these films is often big, sometimes not only proof to the audience of its ability to provide eye-satisfying visuals effect but can occasionally generate buzz and interest (since in audiences' mind, most would follow this sequence: big budget -> then the existence of big-name cast -> "star power"), so basically, good for publicity. These films also often be released with another big amount for various marketing strategies to maximize profit and audience, there's no doubt why they are so financially successful or have such popularity.
My decision to target specific audiencesI think targeting mainstream audiences in my media product may not allow me to fully express myself. I guess focusing on a more specific group should be more suitable as I want to go deeper into things that are more personal, and special to me. In my view, this would also help the movie to stand out and likely bring more emotion.
