#15: My personal ideology
IDEOLOGY
My ' Political Compass' results
Mine lies in the 'libertarian right' quadrant, and it is pretty close to the central. I was not very surprised with my result. In my view, regulations are required to put society in order. Still, I did think that I would lean toward the more 'libertarian' part, as I favor a certain degree of freedom over state control of everything.
My opinion on the role of government and state-sponsored media and whether the production and promotion of media be strictly produced and decided by the people.
To some extent, the government has to have regulations to control media. The media is an influential industry and can make a huge impact on a country's politics and economy. Laws are needed to avoid media giants from manipulating information and misleading the public - and this, in a way, is also the explanation for the existence of government and state-sponsored media.
But I am not advocating excessive intervention. In the media industry, there is a need for breakthroughs that defies convention. Take the situation of the two countries China and Korea for example, they both have the most developed film industries in Asia. However, it's pretty obvious that in recent years the prominence has skewed towards Korea. The Korean megahit "Squid Game" is an example of how Korea differ from China - where the government interferes greatly in its film industry (through policies and regulations), somehow stifling the creativity of filmmakers. The anarchy spirit of the new Korean cinema is which allows "Squid Game" to be such crazy, surreal but deeply and poignantly reflecting an unjust society. An artistic boldness which has also brought internationally acclaimed for Parasite and Minari.
In conclusion, I believe that while restrictions are essential, there must still be gaps for the media to flourish.
How my personal ideology is presented in my media products
I believed no one is perfect. Therefore, the characters, in my media product, will have flaws, and can be full of flaws; even if the character model here aims to be the one who is generally perceived in society as the good one. Their actions may be mainly led by their principles or morals, but they can sometimes be overwhelmed by other factors such as grief and ambition.
