 My Screenplay



BLACK... There's the scratching sound of a pencil on paper.
EXT. THE RIVER - AFTERNOON [PRESENT]
JIM sitting on the edge of the wooden bridge. His hand moves the pencil quickly, producing various strokes in the drawing. Jim is then abruptly distracted by the giggle sound. He turned to look around.
Jim’s POV:
We see two girls laughing. They seem happy. Their eyes sparkle with joy.
GRAPHIC MATCH TO
INT. ROOM - DAWN [FLASHBACK]
We see Rue's eyes. They look sad.
PRE-LAP: The giggling sound of the girls.
EXT. THE RIVER - AFTERNOON [PRESENT]
Jim opens his eyes. He breathes heavily. Seems as if he sees a nightmare.
Jim picks up the pencil. He looks down and tries to focus on the drawing. But the giggle sound comes again to Jim. His eyes show distraction. Jim holds the pencil tightly. He draws quickly and aggressively.
QUICK FLASH - Rue's eyes.
The sound seems louder and louder. The speed and aggressiveness increase with the volume of the giggle sound. The pencil’s tip cracks.
QUICK FLASH - Rue's eyes.
INT. ROOM - DAWN [FLASHBACK]
We see Rue. Rue and Jim sit next to each other. The room is dimly lit.
We can hear the sound in the room. The clock ticks loudly. Everything else is silent.
Jim just plays with the lighter. Turn it on and off. We hear Rue's sobbing sound, slightly. No one says anything.
Jim stops playing with the lighter. He breaks the silence.
JIM
You’re strong, Rue.
There’s no reply. Jim picks up the lighter. Rolling it.
JIM
Don’t care what they say. Soon, you're gonna go to college.
Rue looks lost. But this time he replies.
RUE
I know.
JIM
(firmly)
Everything's gonna be fine.
No reply from Rue again.
Jim put down the lighter. He turns to Rue.
Jim's POV:
We look at Rue's face. Pale and emotionless.
Jim looks down. He plays with the lighter again. The light goes on and off again.
FADE IN
JIM (V.O.)
A month after that day...
(pause)
Rue kills himself.
Strings of violin played. Title emerges.
